This year I decided to use my photography to celebrate a special holiday from my Mexican heritage, el Dia de Los Muertos. (You may know it as the Day of the Dead.) El Dia de Los Muertos is a Mexican holiday centered around honoring our friends and family who have passed on by gathering together to pray for them and support them in their spiritual journey. Traditions to honor their memories include building ofrendas/shrines, presenting sugar skulls and flowers, decorating their graves with their posessions, and even cooking their favorite foods.
Happy Halloween and Dia de Muertos
I wanted to embrace this holiday with the tradition of dressing up with calaveras makeup (or skeleton makeup. My beautiful friend and make-up artist Devan did her calaveras makeup perfectly and we further embraced the traditions by adding an elegant black dress and veil, a traditional mexican belt, and colorful flowers by Sheer Rose Design in her hair that was style by the talented Studio Miranda. It came out exactly as I was hoping and I think she looks positively amazing!
Thank you for stopping by to celebrate this amazing holiday with me! Wishing everyone a wonderful Dia de Los Muertos and a Happy Halloween this weekend!
